Takedowns
Last updated 2026-10-11.
Huduku repeats headlines that publishers wrote. A headline that is unlawful to repeat, or that its publisher has withdrawn, should not stay on Huduku. This page says how to ask for one to be taken down, and how quickly Huduku acts.
How to ask
Write to contact@huduku.org with:
- the link to the page on Huduku, or the publisher’s link, for each headline;
- the ground (below), and why it applies;
- who you are, and whom you act for, if anyone;
- for a court or government order, a copy of the order.
Grounds
- Defamation.
- A court order, or an order of a government authority with the power to make it.
- A headline that names or identifies someone the law protects from being named: a victim of a sexual offence, or a child.
- An exit poll repeated in the period the Election Commission bars it.
- The publisher’s own request (see For publishers).
- An article its publisher has withdrawn.
- Anything else unlawful to repeat: say what, and why.
How quickly
- Huduku acknowledges every request within 24 hours.
- It acts within 36 hours on a court or government order, a headline that names someone the law protects, or an exit poll in the barred period.
- It acts within 48 hours on a publisher’s request, and within 72 hours on anything else.
- Around polling days, Huduku checks exit-poll headlines itself and takes them down until the barred period ends.
What a takedown does
- It removes the headline, with its earlier wordings, from every public page and from Huduku’s dated record of headlines at once. Pages already cached catch up within five minutes.
- It can’t change the publisher’s article. Please write to the publisher too.
- Huduku writes back to say what it did, and why if it didn’t.
Withdrawn articles
Huduku checks each public headline’s link when it is two days old and again at sixteen days. If a link answers “not found” or “gone” twice, at least a week apart, Huduku takes the headline down itself. A link that now leads to another page is not treated as withdrawn.
What Huduku keeps
Of a request: an email address to reply to and a short note of what it asked. Both are deleted a year after Huduku acted on it. The record of the takedown itself (which headline, the ground and the dates) stays, so it isn’t undone by mistake.
